Employer's Grievance Response
The duty to hold a meeting and communicate a decision.
Last updated 21 February 2026
Overview
Under the ACAS Code, employers must arrange a formal meeting without unreasonable delay, write to you with their decision, and offer an appeal.
Unreasonable delays or ignoring the grievance entirely can amount to a breach of the implied term of trust and confidence.
What you can do
- If the employer delays, chase them in writing and set a reasonable deadline.
- If they fail to respond, this failure itself can form the basis of a constructive dismissal claim.
